How points are earned

Make eligible payroll activity count.

Find out what makes payroll activity eligible, when points are confirmed and how to keep track of them. Clear earning rules help your people know where they stand. Your eligibility and earning terms are agreed directly with YTS before the program begins.

01

Eligibility comes first

Before points are discussed, the program needs to say who can take part and which payroll activity counts. That might differ between groups, such as permanent staff, casual workers or contractors, and it should be written down rather than assumed. This website doesn’t set eligibility or earning rules. They’re agreed directly with YTS for each arrangement, so the most useful thing you can do is describe your team clearly in your enquiry.

  • Which groups of people could take part
  • Which payroll activity may count
  • From what date participation would begin
  • Whether any activity is excluded
  • Who confirms eligibility when it’s unclear
02

Confirmation and records

Earning points only builds trust if people can see what was recorded. Ask how earned points are confirmed, how often and in what form, and what to do when something looks wrong. Ask how corrections are made too, so a mistake in hours or classification doesn’t leave points out of step with pay. Clear record keeping is a good sign the program has been properly thought through.

  • How earned points are confirmed to participants
  • How often confirmation is provided
  • How to query a missing or incorrect entry
  • How corrections to pay affect points
  • Who keeps the records and for how long
03

When circumstances change

Working lives shift. Someone might change roles, cut back their hours, finish an assignment or move between employers. A sound agreement explains what happens to earning, and to points already earned, in each case, including any time limits. Those terms aren’t published here, so don’t assume any expiry or rule. Mention the situations you’re likely to face in your enquiry so the answers can be written into the terms you’re given.

  • What happens when a role or hours change
  • What happens when an assignment finishes
  • Whether earned points can lapse and when
  • What notice is given if terms change
  • How a worker is told about any change

More questions
How many points will I earn?

This website doesn’t state earning rates or point values. How points are earned, and how many, is agreed directly with YTS and set out in your terms. Please ask for that detail in writing before you take part.

Does earning points change my pay?

Points are a separate program and don’t replace pay, superannuation or entitlements. If you’re unsure how an arrangement affects your pay, ask for the explanation in writing and think about talking it over with your accountant.

Can anyone earn points?

Only people the agreed terms treat as eligible can take part. Eligibility can depend on the arrangement, so ask YTS who’s included and from when, rather than assuming everyone paid through payroll qualifies.
