Accountants and advisers

A considered payroll conversation for your clients.

Help your clients ask the right questions about payroll and points rewards. A useful introduction starts with the client’s consent, a clear picture of their workforce and an understanding of where your advice ends and the agreed payroll service begins.

Introducing a client enquiry

If you think a client could benefit from a payroll and rewards conversation, start with their agreement. Make sure they’re comfortable with their details being shared, and consider letting them make the first contact themselves. A brief description of their workforce and what they’re hoping to achieve is enough to begin. YTS doesn’t offer referral terms through this website, so please don’t assume any.

  • Confirm your client’s consent first
  • Share only a brief, general description
  • Consider letting the client contact YTS directly
  • Note the client’s goals and constraints
  • Don’t assume any referral arrangement
02

Clear boundaries

Advisers value clear lines. Talk through which tasks stay with you, which sit with YTS and which remain with the client, such as preparing returns, reviewing pay run outputs or approving changes. Rewards add another layer: points aren’t pay, and the tax treatment of any reward is a matter for professional advice that this website doesn’t provide. Agree how you’ll each receive information so your work isn’t disrupted.

  • Which tasks remain with your practice
  • Which are handled by YTS under the agreement
  • What the client continues to approve
  • How outputs and records reach you
  • Who advises on the tax position of rewards

Reviewing the paperwork

Clients often rely on their accountant to read the terms before they sign. Encourage them to ask for the payroll service terms and the rewards terms in writing, and to ask about what’s covered, changes, ending the arrangement and how points are treated when work changes. You may want to raise questions on the client’s behalf. Nothing on this website replaces those documents, so rely on them rather than general marketing text.

  • Request service and rewards terms in writing
  • Check what’s covered, exclusions and change processes
  • Review how the arrangement can end
  • Check how points are treated when work changes
  • Raise questions before the client signs

Can I enquire on behalf of a client?

Yes, with your client’s agreement. Keep the first message general and don’t send client financial or personal records. The client can then decide how to continue the conversation and onboarding.

Does YTS replace my role?

This website makes no such claim. Responsibilities are discussed and agreed for each arrangement, so ask how your role and YTS’s would work together for your particular client.

Are there referral fees?

No referral terms are offered or implied on this website. If you have a question about working with YTS as an adviser, raise it through the contact route and any terms would be agreed directly.
