Project-based teams

For teams whose expertise moves business.

Permanent teams, project specialists and contractors each bring different payroll questions. Talk through responsibilities, reporting needs and approval routes with YTS, then think about how a points rewards program could sit alongside the arrangements your firm and its people rely on.

Projects, teams and contractors

In professional services, people are often assigned to projects that begin and end regardless of pay cycles. Some are employees; others are engaged as contractors for a specific piece of work. Payroll should reflect those differences clearly. Describe your structure in an enquiry, ask what would be included and what wouldn’t, and get advice from a qualified professional about how particular people should be engaged.

  • How your teams and projects are structured
  • Which people are employees and which are contractors
  • What payroll would include for each group
  • How project changes affect pay
  • Who approves changes on the business side

Reporting and records

Partners, finance leads and accountants often want to see payroll information in a particular form. Write down what you need to see, how often and who needs access, then ask YTS which reports or ways of sharing information can be provided under the agreement. That way you won’t find a mismatch after the arrangement has started.

  • What payroll information you need to see
  • How often you need it
  • Who in the firm needs access
  • What your accountant requires
  • What the agreement says will be provided

Recognition that helps keep good people

Skilled people have choices, and many firms look for ways to recognise contribution beyond salary. A rewards program could be one of those, but only if it’s credible and simple. Think about which payroll activity would be fair to recognise, how points would be explained to senior and junior staff, and how the program would sit beside existing benefits. Terms are agreed with YTS and not set by this page.

  • What contribution you’d want to recognise
  • How it sits beside existing benefits
  • How points are explained to different levels
  • What happens when someone moves on
  • How to keep the program simple to run

More questions
Does YTS connect to our accounting software?

This website makes no integration claims. If you rely on particular software, name it in your enquiry and ask directly what can be supported, with the answer confirmed in writing before you commit.

Can contractors take part in rewards?

Eligibility is set by the agreed terms, and this website doesn’t decide it. Ask whether and how contractors can be included, and get advice about how your people are engaged.

Are rewards a substitute for salary?

No. Points are a separate program and don’t replace pay, superannuation or entitlements. Ask for the program’s terms in writing, and talk to your adviser about how it fits alongside the way you remunerate your people.
